DESCRIPTION:Placing Sustainable and Inclusive Wellbeing at the Heart of the Economy: From Research to Transformative Policy\nEurope stands at a crossroads: economic competitiveness and security dominate today’s policy debates\, while environmental sustainability and social wellbeing risk being sidelined. Yet these dimensions are essential for addressing climate change\, ensuring long-term stability\, and creating resilient\, thriving societies. Against this backdrop\, the Horizon Europe projects ToBe and SPES join forces in a final high-level conference to present their research findings and discuss concrete pathways for reorienting Europe’s economy towards sustainable and inclusive wellbeing. \nThe conference will: \n\nShowcase innovative frameworks\, indicators\, and models that bridge productivity\, environmental sustainability\, and social fairness.\nProvide a platform for policy dialogue with EU institutions\, academics\, and civil society on how to integrate wellbeing and sustainability into European policymaking.\nHighlight the need for beyond-GDP metrics and evidence-based policies to guide the EU’s 2024–2029 strategic priorities and the global sustainability agenda.\n\nProgramme highlights: \n\nDay 1 (Residence Palace): Keynote address\, high-level panels\, and parallel sessions on climate resilience\, inclusion and participation\, and tracking progress through wellbeing indicators.\nDay 2 (European Committee of the Regions): Policy morning on the future of EU wellbeing policies in a beyond growth perspective\, followed by final project recommendations and responses from European decision-makers.\n\nThe event will culminate in policy recommendations aimed at ensuring that research outcomes translate into transformative policy and practice at both EU and global levels. \nYou may check the full programme here and read the concept note of the event here. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS)\, join fellow researchers and practitioners from around the globe to share insights\, discuss research findings\, and to forge new connections. Our conferences offer a unique platform to explore multidisciplinary approaches to quality-of-life research and their implications. We invite speakers from all relevant disciplines and methodological backgrounds to apply. \nThis year’s theme is “Redefining Progress: Achieving Sustainable Well-Being for All” which highlights the community’s continued efforts to better understand quality-of-life and to integrate it into inclusive concepts of societal progress. \nThe main conference activities will take place over four days and include several keynote addresses\, one roundtable discussion\, special sessions\, parallel oral presentations\, and poster sessions. As usual\, we anticipate pre-conference workshops\, and a social event. \nThe confirmed keynote speakers thus far include Jeffrey Sachs (Columbia University) and Sonja Lyubomirsky (University of California\, Riverside)\, Lord Richard Layard (London School of Economics)\, and Robert Costanza (University College of London).  \nThe 23rd Annual ISQOLS Conference is organized in collaboration with the Research Department of STATEC (the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) and the University of Luxembourg\, with the support of the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy.

DESCRIPTION:The 10th International Degrowth Conference and the 15th Conference of the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE) will be held in the city of Pontevedra (Galicia\, Spain) from 18 – 21 June 2024. This joint conference is part of the  “Pontevedra ESEE-Degrowth 2024” activities\, which will establish Pontevedra as the European capital of degrowth in 2024. \nThe event titled ‘Science\, Technology\, and Innovation beyond growth: Cultivating collective creativity for a sustainable future\,’ will consist of two types of activities: \n\nThe main Conference (The Conference) is scheduled to take place from 18-21 June 2024. It will feature a diverse range of sessions\, including academic lectures\, expert panels\, and artistic workshops. With an expected participation of over 500 attendees\, including academics and activists\, this conference aims to bring together a wide range of perspectives and international expertise on ecological economics and degrowth.\n\n\nCivic engagement and citizen-oriented initiatives (Beyond the Conference)will be organized throughout the year and during the conference days.  These activities will be held at various locations across the city and will include  workshops\, debates\, exhibitions\, and contests. SUMMARY:Time ToBe Blooming: A Spring to Sustainable Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:As part of its consortium\, we are delighted to announce that the ToBe research project is planning a webinar series entitled “Time ToBe Blooming: A Spring for Sustainable Wellbeing”. \n\n\nThis series\, which is set to take place between March and May 2023\, promises a deep dive into the realms of sustainable wellbeing\, local approaches to wellbeing economies\, and the overarching EU policy landscape. \nThe webinar series is organised under the framework of ToBe\, a 3-year long research project funded by Horizon Europe. Acknowledging the need of a paradigm that places wellbeing at its core instead of economic growth\, the project aims to discover the ways in which mindsets\, indicators\, innovations\, and policies could better work together towards a sustainability paradigm. In this regard\, ToBe intends to contribute to filling the existing knowledge gap in order to create a better understanding of a sustainable welfare economy through integrated policies and transformative indicators. \nThat said\, this webinar series provides a great opportunity to introduce the concept of Sustainable Wellbeing to a wider audience. Additionally\, it will present local approaches to wellbeing economies as well as address the EU and policy dimensions and opportunities for this topic in view of the upcoming elections. \nThe webinar series comprises three thought-provoking sessions: \n\n19 March 2024 (14:00-15:30h CET): A Dip in Sustainable Wellbeing: Understanding good life within planetary boundaries. SUMMARY:9th International Degrowth Conference
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to bring to your attention the upcoming 9th International Degrowth Conference\, taking place in the vibrant city of Zagreb\, Croatia from August 29 to September 2\, 2023. \n\n\n\nZagreb\, with a municipal government led by former degrowth conference speakers\, sets the perfect stage for this conference. This unique setting brings together an international audience interested in degrowth and the realities of a semi-peripheral capital city exploring new pathways to justice and sustainability. It promises to extend the reach of the degrowth movement and solidify its relevance in the everyday lives of Europeans. \n\n\n\nThe conference promises an enriching experience\, not just from an academic and activist perspective\, but also from a networking standpoint. In addition to the conference itself\, there will be a city-wide Degrowth Week featuring a range of engaging events. The venues include the historical Zagreb Fair for all conference sessions\, the Museum of Contemporary Art for the grand opening\, and the scenic Youth Culture Centre “Ribnjak” for the festival segment. \n\n\n\nA lineup of distinguished keynote speakers such as Kohei Saito\, Roland Ngam\, Diana Ürge-Vorsatz\, Paul Stubbs\, and Karin Doolan will be featured. The conference will also host hundreds of scholars from across the globe\, eager to engage in discourse about the different facets of a feasible degrowth future. \n\n\n\nPreceding the conference on August 28\, the 4th International Assembly of the Degrowth Movement will take place\, with the goal to discuss and deliberate on the mission and structure of the degrowth movement. \n\n\n\nDegrowth Week will be brimming with events including an environmental film festival\, an activist-artistic festival\, the presentation by the METAR thematic network on low carbon transition cooperation\, and a variety of panels\, presentations\, and workshops by practitioners and activists. \n\n\n\nWhile the call for proposals has concluded\, we’d like to remind those whose paper/presentation/workshop was accepted to register if they haven’t yet done so. Also\, if you’re interested in attending the conference even without a presentation\, we strongly encourage you to register as tickets are limited and available on a first-come\, first-served basis. \n\n\n\nThe Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is diligently working to coordinate the conference and Degrowth Week program.
